Thank you for your interest in teaching chess! Chess Instructors must be available weekday afternoons and evenings 3:00pm – 7:00pm, must have reliable transportation, and must be on time to any scheduled class. Classes are typically one-hour in length.
Job Description: Chess Instructor
The first 20-30 minutes of class involves teaching basic chess tactics and strategy in front of a group of students ages 7 & up using a two-dimensional demonstration chess board. Lessons include: Piece Movements, Opening Principles, Finding Checkmates, etc.
The final 30-40 minutes of class involves managing chess free play. This includes pairing students up based on appropriate levels, correcting basic errors such as a student moving a piece wrongly, and sometimes playing students when there is an odd #.

We provide the necessary training to teach instructors on how to properly teach students chess. You do not need to be a chess expert but should more importantly show a passion for the game and for teaching children. Thus, this job may be ideal for those who wish to gain teaching experience in schools and also improve their own chess skills at the same time.
